John Kaitu'u Joins Waitt Institute as Marine Spatial Planning Technical Manager


John Kaitu’u has joined the Waitt Institute as a Marine Spatial Planning Technical Manager. In this role, he will assist partners in mapping and managing Marine Spatial Planning data and activities across their ocean space, helping them navigate national priorities through an informed decision-making process.

 

John describes himself as a simple farmer and fisherman who loves the ocean and shares a passion for conservation. He believes that there is a strong need for a balance between economic growth and conservation of natural resources, and that marine data analysis provides the tools to achieve this goal.

 

John has Marine Spatial Planning experience across Oceania, including in Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Samoa, and the Cook Islands, and aspires to use these many experiences and lessons learned to build capacity and achieve progress on the Waitt Institute team.
